After Samsung recalled almost all Note 7 units following the innumerable battery explosions, the South Korean company is all set to bring back the device, but with a different name and a smaller battery, while other specifications will remain the same. The new Galaxy Note 7, which will be renamed as Samsung Galaxy Note 7R will be available at a much cheaper price tag as compared to Note 7 that was launched last year.
A report coming from SamMobile states, that the upcoming Galaxy Note 7R will be available in South Korea from three carriers this June. This means that Samsung Galaxy Note 7R will be announced in June this year and will go on sale soon after the launch but only in South Korea. A previous report suggests that the refurbished Note 7 will be made available in very selective markets only. Apart from the launch timeline, SamMobile also throws light on the pricing details of the new Note 7.
As per the pricing, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7R will reportedly go on sale at a price tag of $620, which is around Rs 39,743. The new model will be much cheaper than the original one which was launched at a price of $933 (Rs 59,807). Samsung is reportedly planning to bring out around 300,000 units of the new Galaxy Note 7R, however, no official confirmation from the company yet.
In terms of the specifications, the refurbished Note 7 as Note 7R will come with a 3,200 mAh battery, which is much smaller than last year's model which was backed by a 3,500 mAh battery. Other specifications remain the same. Furthermore, the refurbished Note 7 will reportedly run on the latest Android Nougat. As Samsung is yet to confirm on the same, these details can be changed later.
So, why did Samsung decide to name it Note 7R? As per our assumption, 'R' probably stands for refurbished or refreshed. Samsung has still not confirmed the coming of the refurbished version of Note 7 officially. So, it's not clear if at all, Samsung will launch the refurbished Note 7. However, one thing that we are sure of is that the new Note 7 will not come to India.
Earlier in a statement to India Today Tech, the company had categorically denied that any such device would be launched in India. "The report on Samsung planning to sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in India is incorrect," a Samsung India spokesperson had said after some reports said that the company was planning to launch refurbished Note 7 in India.
Interestingly, along with the talk of the new Note 7, there are also rumours about the Galaxy S9, for which Samsung and Qualcomm and already working together. The Galaxy S8, in many regions, is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and it has been rumoured that the Galaxy S9 will use the Snapdragon 845.
