New Uber launches UberHIRE for prolonged trips within the city

Uber has officially launched UberHIRE in the country, allowing customers to take longer trips in the city. The rides can be booked for 12 hours on a given day, and the charges will start from Rs 449 and can vary depending on your distance and time. The base fare covers 2 hours and 30 km within the city, so it should be good for a short shopping trip in the city. 

One big caveat here is that the cabs will not travel beyond Uber’s usual city routes. People willing to travel to a different city can try out Ola’s Outstation service, which is slightly expensive but offers a hassle free experience for everyone involved. 

Coming back to UberHIRE, the company mentions that the passengers are not expected to pay any hidden charges barring tolls. So if you book the cab for 12 hours and should the vehicle need refueling, Uber will take care of it. Given that you will be shelling out in excess of Rs 2,000 for a 12-hour trip, this is not surprising. Much like the standard Uber, you will get to choose the kind of service you need. This includes UberGO, UberX and UberXL. 

As of now, the service is only available in New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Vizag, and Nagpur. It will only be available from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM every day, which means you can’t use this for late night trips or pub hopping beyond 10 PM. 

There are a few caveats here, as you can see, but since UberHIRE targets a specific niche, it shouldn’t have a problem finding passengers.
