Huawei recently announced its March 27th press event in Paris, where it is expected to unveil its next-gen P series flagship. The brand’s next flagship is rumoured to be called either the Huawei P11 or P20, and is expected to come in three variants. Ahead of the unveiling, the popular gadget tipster @OnLeaks leaked the CAD-based renders and 360-degree video of the Huawei P20 Lite. Now, the tipster, in collaboration with TigerMobiles,is back with CAD-based renders of the Huawei P20 Plus/Pro, alongside a 360-degree video.
The leaked renders and video suggest that the Huawei P20 Plus or Pro model will be coming with an all-screen front with a slim bottom bezel and an iPhone X-like notch on top. The Huawei P20 Lite has also been tipped to offer a similar design. Interestingly, the CAD renders suggest that the Huawei P20 Plus will feature a triple camera system at the rear. The photos indicate that the handset will feature two cameras with a depth sensor in the middle. A third camera will accompany the main dual camera setup with an LED flash unit. The source mentions that the P20 Plus will measure 155.3 x 74.2 x 7.7mm (9.8mm including the camera bump), and sport a 6-inch display.
As seen in the images, there’s no fingerprint sensor on either the front or rear of the Huawei P20 Plus. The source does mentions that Huawei had tested two prototypes of the P20 and P20 Plus smartphones, one with a physical home button (possibly with a fingerprint sensor beneath) on the bottom bezel, and one without. The source says that it will post renders of the Huawei P20 with a physical home button soon, which will give us a clear picture of how these devices look with or without a button.
Its worth mentioning that unless Huawei decides to use an in-screen fingerprint sensor, its likely that the P20 and P20 Plus will either come with a home button or a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. So far, we haven’t heard anything about Huawei using an under-screen fingerprint scanner. Alternatively, the phone could ditch a fingerprint sensor altogether in favour of facial recognition, which we have already seen on the Honor View 10 (review).
The leaked photos also reveal that the Huawei P20 Plus will sport a USB Type-C port between two speakers at the bottom. There’s a small hole on top of the phone, which is too small to be a 3.5mm headphone jack, and is expected to be an Infrared sensor. The device’s power and volume rocker keys will be located on the right side.
There aren’t many details available about the upcoming Huawei P20 and P20 Plus smartphones. However, we can expect them to boot Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, and to be powered by the brand’s latest Kirin 970 processor. They are also rumoured to come with a heavy focus on artificial intelligence. We will have more concrete information on their specs in the coming days, so stay tuned.
