Xiaomi set to enter TV market

Xiaomi set to enter TV market in India on February 14

After a subdued start and being quiet for two months, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is now all set to take the curtains off its 2018's first launch of the year.

The company has been teasing on its social media accounts with the hashtag #GiveMe5 where it is expected to launch the Xiaomi Redmi 5 or the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 smartphone.

As part of this teasing campaign, the company has now put up a video that shows people getting amazed and confused and are unable to identify the product. At one point, we see a woman seeing an extremely thin huge screen indicating that the company is probably going to launch a TV in the same event as well. We see a big glossy screen with a blue frame around it, which looks quite similar to the Mi TV 4A, which was recently launched in China.

It will be clear at the time of the launch whether the device launched in India will have the same specs as the one launched in China. To recall, the television was launched in China boasts of a 50-inch screen with a 4K UHD display of 3840 x 2160p resolution. It is powered by 64-bit Amlogic L962 quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage.

The TV has refresh rate of 60HZ and it also offers support for HDR10+ HLG. In terms of connectivity the TV offers WiFi, Bluetooth, 3 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports, AV input, Ethernet port, S/PDIF audio output port, DTS Audio and Dolby. The device flaunts a frameless design and incorporates Mi TV Bar with 10 speakers, 2 wireless rear satellite speakers, and a subwoofer. The device also comes with Dolby Atmos audio technology.

Launching a TV would mark Xiaomi's entry into the television market in India.

As mentioned earlier, Xiaomi is expected to bring its first handset of the year, the Xiaomi Note 5. The upcoming handset will be a Flipkart-exclusive device as the Indian e-commerce major has confirmed on Twitter that the upcoming smartphone will be exclusively available on the platform.
