After numerous leaks and rumours, Xiaomi has finally made the Redmi 4 official. Launched at an event in China, the smartphone is available in two variants based on hardware configuration and comes in Silver, Gold and Grey colour options. However, there's no word about the device's India launch yet.

Talking about the hardware, the newly-launched Xiaomi Redmi 4 sports a 5-inch 2.5D curved glass display. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box, with Xiaomi's own MIUI skin layer running on top.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 is available in two variants. The low-end version is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset paired with 2GB of RAM of 16GB of internal storage. The higher-end variant comes with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. While the former has an HD display of 720x1280 pixel resolution and is priced at 699 Yuan (about Rs 6,900), the latter sports a Full HD display of 1080x1920 pixel resolution and bears a price tag of 899 Yuan (around Rs 8,800).

Other specifications are largely the same for both variants. Xiaomi Redmi 4 comes with a 13MP rear camera with phase detection auto focus and dual-LED flash, along with a 5MP front-facing snapper. A fingerprint sensor and an IR blaster are included too.

Even though the Redmi 4 is dual-SIM, the hybrid configuration means users will have to choose between dual-SIM functionality and expandable storage. Having 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS as major connectivity options, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 is backed by a large 4,100mAh battery.

The Redmi 4 recently got listed on the website of a Chinese telecom company called TianYi. The company launched the bigger sibling of the smartphone - Redmi Note 4, earlier this year in China. The handset features a 5.5-inch Full HD display of 1080x1920 pixel resolution. Powering the device is a 2.1GHz deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor coupled with 2GB/3GB of RAM.
