The standard 3.5mm headphone jack is being ditched by the bigwigs - mainly Apple and Google - of the technology world. Such a move might have sounded the death knell for wired earphones but there remains a steady and loyal stream of customers who prefer them. And why shouldn't they as wired earphones are handy, easy-to-use and you don't need to bother about charging them. Wireless earphones/headphones have started to make their presence felt but the classic earphones are still going strong.
Samsung's latest in-ear (rectangle design) headphones are an example of this. We have been using them for a while now and here is our review:
Build and design
The Samsung in-ear headphones have a rectangular shaped aluminium ear housing with a polished anodized finish. The ear pieces fit easily into the ears and do not slip out. The company is offering three sizes in ear tips -- small, medium and large for users to choose the perfect fit for them. We used the small size and were extremely satisfied with the fit and the comfort level even during prolonged usage.
The earphones come in Silver and Blue colour combination. The right audio cable plays home to the microphone, which houses the three-button controller that performs functions like play/pause, volume up and volume down). Samsung branding can be found on the driver of the earphones.
The earphones have a 1.2m cable which is divided into rubberized flat-finish cable at the top and fabricated cable at the bottom. This, however, doesn't mean that the earphones don't get tangled up but they can be easily untangled.
Overall, we were quite impressed with the design and build quality of the Samsung in-ear headphones. Weighing about 18g, the earphones are quite lightweight which makes it easier for users to carry the earphones.

Performance
The Samsung in-ear headphones boast of a double layered motion structure that is claimed to support ultra-wide frequency ranges for better audio experience.
When it comes to the sound quality, the Samsung rectangle design earphones deliver very impressive output. The noise cancellation of the earphones is excellent. The highs and mids from the earphones were crisp and clear too. The earphones ticked the checkbox for bass and treble as well. Even at higher volume levels, there was no distortion of sound but there is definite audio leakage that may annoy people sitting next to you. We would advice using them at lower volume levels if you're in a public place or using public transport.
We faced no problem when it came to answering calls. The call quality was quite clear with no disturbance or distortion of any kind.
Verdict
At a price of Rs 1,889, the Samsung in-ear headphones are certainly a good pair of earphones and are definitely worth considering if you are looking for a wired pair of earphones in a reasonable price range. Add to it the Samsung brand value, there is a certain level of quality assurance that comes attached with the earphones. The audio output will definitely impress you and so will the build quality.
