Lenovo has already made it clear that it plans to bring all of its future smartphones under the Lenovo Moto brand name after having financial troubles as of late. While Lenovo and Moto smartphones are expected to come under the new umbrella, it seems that Lenovo's online only sub brand ZUK might be joining the two.
According to a web conversation on Weibo (spotted by Giz China), ZUK Mobile is going the way of the dodo. The successor to the ZUK Z2 - the ZUK Z3 is not going to be launched as the ZUK Mobile division is allegedly shutting down.
A user by the name of @Old Cool posted a message on Weibo proclaiming that there will be no ZUK Z3. His message saw a reply by renowned Analyst Pan Jiutang who re-affirmed that Lenovo is planning to wrap up ZUK Mobile.
In just 23 months of existence, ZUK Mobile launched 4 smartphones, out of which two made it to India as the ZUK Z1 and the Lenovo Z2 Plus.
All is not lost though as ZUK's user interface may live on in future Moto smartphones. Lenovo's VP Alex Chen Yu recently hinted that Motorola's upcoming Moto C and Moto E smartphones will ditch stock Android and use ZUK's user interface (ZUI) instead. However, many reports claim that the removal of stock Android in favour of ZUI will only be done in China where ZUI has been pretty well received.
ZUI is known for its security features. Lenovo, while describing the UI, notes "ZUI OS provides system-level protection from unwanted threats such as Malware and Trojans. The ability to create automatic security rules and protection engine make effective protection and tracking of apps a sentinel surveillance tool."
