Latest Huawei P10 wants to be an iPhone 7 Plus killer 2017

As anticipated, Huawei has unveiled its latest flagship at the MWC in Barcelona just a while ago. Known as the P10, the smartphone was extensively leaked and rumored before, so most of its hardware attributes have been out in the public domain for quite some time now.

The handset comes with quite an exciting hardware specs sheet as one would expect. One of the key features here is the dual Leica branded cameras on the back which will rival the popular ‘Portrait Mode’ feature from the iPhone 7 Plus. Whether the device will actually succeed in doing this is only for time to tell, but if we know anything about Huawei, it’s that the company will surely not cut corners.

The P10 series is available in two avatars, the standard P10 with a 5.1-inch Full HD (1920x1080) display and the P10 Plus with a 5.5-inch Quad HD (2560x1440) panel. The P10 is equipped with a 3,200mAh battery whereas the larger P10 Plus comes with a generous 3,750mAh unit.

In terms of the camera performance, the P10 and the P10 Plus are the same, with the size and the battery being the only differentiating factors here. Both phones come equipped with a 20MP monochrome sensor and a 12MP sensor used for standard pictures. The combination of two sensors will result in some stunning images, as we saw with the predecessor. Huawei went into great lengths about the purported Portrait Mode alternative, but it’s too soon to pass a fair judgment on the same. It’s clear, however, that Huawei has studied the market extensively for this device.

The company is touting something known as “hyper diamond cut” for its new handsets, which is nothing but marketing jingo for a new product. This particular variant will only be available in Dazzling Blue and Dazzling Gold variants. The standard models have up to eight colors to choose from, with each color having its own custom theme on the device. In all fairness, the handset bears some resemblance to the Apple iPhones, although the addition of more colors evens this out to some extent.

What’s particularly exciting is the use of machine learning algorithms to efficiently manage your app usage. The company claims that “behaviour-based compression mechanism” will ensure that the apps that you don’t use will not eat into the efficiency of the device.

Interestingly, Huawei is using a 3.5mm audio jack here, thus defying the trend and giving users what they actually want. Most devices come with a USB Type-C port and an adapter so as to not alienate owners of older headphones. Huawei is merely making the process more simpler.

Both devices will start shipping out to the customers in Europe, parts of Asia, New Zealand, and other regions by March. The P10 Plus will set you back by €649 (Rs 45,700), with the P10 has been priced at €699 euros (Rs 49,200). The company hasn’t detailed its plans for the Indian markets yet, although we hope to hear more about it soon.
