After hanging up on handset business, Blackberry which was once a market leader has now almost zero percent share in the fourth quarter of 2016 global smartphone sales .
The analysis conducted by market research firmGartner said that out of more than 431.5 million smartphones purchased last year, Blackberry sold about 200,000 devices. The total sales average to a less than half of the unit of volume in that particular OS category.
As per the research, Microsoft Windows smartphones had too experienced a slump in number of handset sales. The share of Windows fell from 1.1 percent to 0.3 percent in the last quarter of 2016.
In order to revive from the situation, Blackberry has outsourced its operations and is now providing security software and service suites to TCL Communication which will design and manufacture blackberry branded phones, as recently the two companies were found entering into a long-term licensing agreement.
TCL Communication will be the exclusive global manufacturer and distributor for allBlackBerry-branded smartphones with the exception of the following countries -- India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
Also, in a bid to sustain its South Asian smartphone market, Blackberry had also announced its partnership with Optiemus, in order to license software and services for the production of secure Android handsets in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.
