For years, fashion lovers have gotten their inspiration from movie stars. A Bollywood star wears something and it either becomes a rage or a flop, but it never goes unnoticed. And if it does become a rage, everyone who is style conscious tries to emulate it. With Fashin, we found an app that combines your love for Bollywood with your love for clothes and footwear. We tried the app to see what it does and how well it does it and totally loved the concept. Read the rest of our review to find out more about it:
We'll start out by telling you what exactly the app does and how it's different from other e-commerce platforms. Fashin shows you clothes and shoes from various other shopping sites like Flipkart and Amazon that you can buy. But what makes it really different is that it has a number of videos that you can watch from latest Bollywood songs. Then, using artificial intelligence technology, the app analyzes what clothes the characters are wearing in the video, and then tells you where you can buy same or similar looking clothes from.
So that's the core concept of the app and when we read about it, we thought it was very different from what we have seen so far and we just had to try it.
Launched fairly recently, Fashin is available on both Android and iOS. It has a simple interface, despite the fact that it combines functionalities that we otherwise find in two apps.
As soon as you open the app, you'll see a number of videos. As you scroll down, you'll come across a number of categories you can shop from. However, don't use Fashin for accessories, as it only offers from a collection clothes and shoes.
You can go to your desired category and shop for the clothes like you do on a regular shopping site. It's just that you'll need your Jabong password if you are buying a dress from Jabong showcased on Fashin.
Or you can go watch a video. Now the first thing that we'll say is, don't go with the mindset that the app is YouTube. It has a collection of videos of all latest Bollywood movies on YouTube, but don't expect to find the video of a movie that got released two or three years back.
Coming back to videos, we played quite a few of them during our testing and weren't disappointed. Fashin really does what it promises to do. It analyzes the clothes people in the videos were wearing, takes small screenshots of the clothes and shows where a similar outfit is available. It also shows the price of the clothes at various online stores.
Once you are sure which one you want to buy and click on it, Fashin takes you to the page where you can either buy the outfit or add it to your bag. However, keep in mind that if you are buying something from Flipkart, it will be added in your Flipkart shopping bag and not Fashin shopping bag. Similarly, if you press Buy now, you will make the purchase from Flipkart. And obviously, to do either of the two, you would require account password.
That being said, we found this entire process fairly simple. The quality of videos is very good and so is app's recognition of clothes. We can't really complain about having to sign in into various e-commerce platforms to make the purchase, because it's just a matter of entering a password. But then, we know that some people may not like it, especially those who have problems remembering passwords.
But that's not all. There's another feature of the app that we really liked. There are times that you have a picture in your phone of the exact outfit that you want to wear for the next party, but you have to hunt down markets to find it. With Fashin, you can forget about going from one market to the other and wasting your time doing so.
You can simply click on the photo icon on the app, pick the picture from your phone's gallery, and select the piece of clothing you are looking for. Once you do that, the app takes you to its shopping section and there you can select the exact category where you can find that piece of clothing.
For instance, I have selected a dress in the picture I picked from my gallery. When the app takes me to its shopping section, I would first select women's clothing, then western wear, and then dresses. Once I reach the category, there are other filters available to tone down my search too. Doesn't this feature make shopping so much more convenient?
That's not all. You can also click a picture using the app's camera and look for the piece of clothing you just clicked. Fashin is literally your spy that hunts down so many shopping portals for you. If you like shopping, you'd really like the app. And if you also have a love for Bollywood, you'll absolutely love it.
Verdict
We think that Fashin has a very different concept, and it really does what it promises. We found the app simple to use and the artificial intelligence is quick and intuitive. If there is one thing that we would like the app to improve, it is the variety. We would like to see clothes from more shopping portals, and more categories like earrings and accessories, which would make it a one-stop place for all our shopping.
We'd also like it to expand its variety in videos, and maybe include popular Hollywood ones too. But since the app is recently launched, there's hope that they will expand their range. Other than that, we have no complaints from the app, and are quite happy with it.
