Apple brings its cheapest 'Music plan' to India

NEW DELHI: After almost six months of its international rollout, Apple has introduced the University Student membership plan for its Apple Music service in India. Launched back in May this year, the University Student membership plan has been expanded to 24 more countries (other than India).

Until now, the plan was available in the United States, Australia, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

For those unaware, Apple University Student plan allows college and university students to become Apple Music subscribers at discounted prices. Until now, India had only two subscription plans available - Individual and Family.

While the University Student subscription on Apple Music costs Rs 60 per month, the Family and Individual plans are priced at Rs 190 per month and Rs 120 per month respectively.
Apple has tied up with UniDAYS to verify the authenticity of the students who apply for the plan. UniDays is a service that validates student's eligibility. Interested students will need to provide their email address and name of their college/university for verification. In addition, the service will also keep a check on the student's eligibility. This means that once the member student finishes his studies, the plan will be deactivated. Same will happen if an individual stays on the University Student plan for more than 48 months.
After deactivation, the Student plan will automatically get changed to Individual Plan.

Some of the other countries where the Student subscription plan of Apple Music has now been introduced includes Indonesia, Hong Kong, Colombia, Finland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Belgium, China, Chile, France, Russia, Switzerland, Singapore, Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Thailand, Spain, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates.
