Now play games with Facebook’s Messenger app

NEW  DELHI: Facebook has been introducing a few games to its standalone messaging app, Messenger since the past few months. However, with the latest update to the app, the social media firm has started rolling out a new feature - 'Instant Games'. As of now, thirty countries will be receiving the update.

Instant Games lets you access 17 game titles within a few taps. These games are based on HTML 5 and will arrive on both web and mobile applications. "This new games experience allows people to easily discover, share, and play games without having to install new apps," said Facebook product manager Alissa Ju on the official Messenger Blog.

Some of the games included in the list are Pac-Man, EverWing, Space Invaders, and Track and Field 100M.
To access the games, users will be required to engage in a chat with another individual and tap on the new game controller icon just above the section. This will open a list of games you want to play inside the app. To start playing, all you would be required to do is tap on the 'Play' option. The feature also lets you play with others, and access leaderboards.

"Instant Games can also be played on Facebook News Feed, enabling a seamless cross-platform experience where people can discover new games through recommendations, posts, challenges, and the Facebook Pages of individual games," adds Ju. In addition, there is also a dedicated Instant Games bookmark on Facebook where gamers can view and replay their favourite titles.

Instant Games is supported on Android v5.0 Lollipop/iOS v8 and above OS versions.

Besides gaming, Facebook has also been working hard on integrating a new 'Rooms' feature in its Messenger app. As reported recently, the limited roll out of Rooms feature is said to be for testing purposes. It's also to check whether the popularity of Facebook's Messenger app can drive users towards using the functionality for conversing on common topics.
