NEW DELHI: Xiaomi has finally launched its much-awaited Redmi Note 5 smartphone in India. Successor to the last year launched Redmi Note 4, the device comes with a starting price tag of Rs 9,999. Going by the price the device will compete against the Moto G5 Plus and the recently launched Honor 9 Lite. Wonder how the device will excel against it competitors.? Display
Taking the bezel-less display trend ahead, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 also comes with a full screen display. The smartphone sports a 5.99-inch full HD+ display with 1080x1260 pixel resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The display is also protected with a layer of Corning Gorilla glass.
The Honor 9 Lite also comes with a full screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The device features a 5.65-inch full HD+ display with 1080x1260 pixel resolution. The smartphone is made scratch resistant with a coating of Corning Gorilla glass.
The Moto G5 Plus sports a 5.2-inch full HD display with 1080x1920 pixel resolution. This one is not a full screen display but it definitely comes with a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
In the display segment both Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and the Honor 9 Lite excels.
Processor
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is powered by the same processor as its predecessor Redmi Note 4. The handset packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, which promises to offer 14 hours of video playback, 27 hours of audio and 8 hours of continuous gaming.
The Honor 9 Lite is powered by the company’s own octa-core Kirin 659 processor. The company claims that the processor is capable of running graphic rich games with ease.
The Moto G5 Plus is also backed by the same processor as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. The device runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor.
So it seems that all the three devices give tough competition to each other in this segment.
Operating system
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system topped with the MIUI 9. The device comes with all the standard Xiaomi apps. The company has also revealed that they are working on the Android Oreo update but has not revealed any timeline of the roll out.
The Honor 9 Lite runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box. The company has also topped it with its EMUI 8.0 UI layer. It comes equipped with latest AI features and is also optimised for better user experience.
The Moto G5 Plus also runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. The smartphone offers stock Android experience and comes with no UI skin. The company has also revealed that the smartphone will receive an Android Oreo update by April this year.
The Honor 9 Lite comes as winner in this segment as it is already offering what the other will.
