Apple Homepod fix costs almost

Apple Homepod fix costs almost as much as a new speaker itself
NEW DELHI: Apple hasn't had an easy run in the speaker market till now. After months of delay and a couple of bug fixes, it has been found out that fixing the Siri-enabled speaker will cost almost the same as the speaker itself.

Yes, you heard that right. Apple says that if your Homepod speaker is not working properly or is having an issue, it will cost them $279. This price is only if you don't have AppleCare+ service. The price, interestingly, is just $70 less than the cost of the speaker itself. The Homepod costs $349 in the US. For those in the UK, buying a new speaker instead of getting it fixed makes slightly more sense. Apple is charging them GBP 268 for the fix while the new speaker costs GBP 51 more (GBP 319).

But if you already have AppleCare+, getting the speaker fixed won't cost you a thing, at least for two years from its original purchase date. The service includes accidental damages up to two times. However, you would still need to pay the service fee of $39. Also, AppleCare+ for Hompod cost $39.

So all in all, to get the speaker fixed you would have to shed $39 (AppleCare+) + $39 (service fee) = $78, or else $279.

Apple's Homepod arrived slightly late in the smart speaker market. It was supposed to hit the shelves late last year but got postponed until late last month. The company is yet to bring the device in India.

We may also see Apple launching the next gen Homepod speakers this year or next year. According to a report by Nikkei, Apple Homepod supplier, Inventec Appliances is working on the next-gen Homepod with one of the features that debuted with the iPhone X - facial and image recognition.
