Strontium Nitro Plus OTG Type C USB 3.1 Flash Drive Review

Latest Govt. Jobs 23:50:00 Reviews Edit
Strontium Nitro Plus OTG Type C USB 3.1 Flash Drive review: One size fits all
American writer Stewart Brand once said, "Once a new technology rolls over you, if you're not a part of the steamroller, you're part of the road." Brand's quote can easily be related to various forms of technology but certainly holds true for storage devices. Every time there's a technological advancement, the old piece of technology gets binned without giving it a second thought.

The name of the game in storage devices is: usability and convenience. The latest casualty in the game seems to be the good old microUSB port. Type C is where the action is now as it offers fast connectivity and transfer speed. Not to forget, it's slowly becoming universal. Pick any high-end smartphone or laptop and you'll see the Type C port.

Strontium has launched a "one size fits all" flash drive that can be connected to a laptop and a smartphone. The Nitro Plus OTG Type C USB 3.1 Flash Drive is priced at Rs 2799 and offers 64GB of storage. We used to device to review its performance. Read on:

Design

A flash drive really doesn't boast of design aesthetics and this is one doesn't break the stereotype either. It has a metal body and is slightly smaller than a standard flash drive. There's USB 3.1 on one side and Type C on the other. As cheesy it may sound, you could be better of hooking it up with your keychain as it's a small device and you run the risk of losing it. The metal body gives it a "premium" feel and makes it less prone to physical damage.

There might be people who could have perhaps preferred the device to be slightly bigger but we have no complaints. Bigger and bulkier drives attached to a smartphone don't really scream style.

Performance

As long as you have a device - laptop or smartphone - with a Type C port, this flash drive should suffice to your storage needs.Compatible with MacOS, Android and Windows devices, the twin-sided functionality makes it a handy flash drive. It has a 150MB/sec read speed and offers 100MB/sec write speed. During our testing of the device, we found an average transfer rate of 86.7 MB/sec . A transfer of 1.2GB file from laptop to the Strontium Flash drive took about 38 seconds - relatively fast we would say.

For smartphone users, there is no need to download any app before using it. As soon the drive is plugged, the device pops into the notification bar and a single click gives you access to the files.

A few smartphones and laptops we connected the flash drive to were extremely responsive, except Xiaomi smartphones that failed to read the device.

The device is available in three storage variants; 32GB, 64GB and 128GB priced at Rs 1,599, Rs 2,799 and Rs 4,999 respectively.

Verdict

The Strontium Nitro Plus OTG Type C USB 3.1 Flash Drive is certainly a handy device and worth buying. There's no hassle of carrying multiple dongles or external drives as this flash drives is a convenient device to carry around. In Brand's words, this is still very much a part of the steamroller. Get it and avoid being "on the road."
