Snapchat will let users share Stories outside the app
The latest version of Snapchat -- which notably overhauls the app's interface -- will also let users share Stories outside of the application and directly on the internet with contacts who are not members of the social network.
The changes come as the app's publisher, Snap, is still in search of a viable economic model for the platform while also facing growing competition from Instagram Stories.
Sharing Stories is relatively simple: users press on the Story of their choice then choose the "Share" option to share it with friends on the web (via the snapchat.com website) or to send contacts a link directly via SMS or any instant messaging service.
The aim is evidently to lure new users to Snapchat by showing off what's on offer from the mobile application. Snapchat previously tested a similar function, albeit temporarily, for the 2016 Oscars, allowing web users to access certain Stories outside of the application, via its website. This function will now be rolled out progressively to all Snapchat accounts.
Often criticized for its unnecessarily complex interface and lack of simplicity, the Snapchat app -- particularly popular among teens -- has been given a serious overhaul, clearly separating social content (content shared by friends) and media content (influencers, sponsors, etc.).
According to Snap, the platform has 175 million daily active users.
