10.or E Review

Latest Govt. Jobs 18:03:00 Reviews Edit
10.or E review: Could have been better
The Chinese invasion of the Indian smartphone market has been happening over the last few years now. The latest brand to make its foray in India is 10.or (pronounced as Tenor) with its budget smartphone 10.or E. In an already crowded market, it is tough to stand out from the rest. So, what does 10.or E have - apart from a distinctively spelt name - to take on the competition. Is it better than what's already available in the market? Read the rest of our review to know:

Design

10.or E has a very basic design and there's nothing eye-catching about the look or feel of the smartphone. The black coloured smartphone's front panel is dominated by the 5.5-inch full HD display which comes with a selfie camera and LED flash right above it. There is also a notification light along with the two. Below the display are the on-screen navigation keys which only appear when one touches the screen.

On flipping over, you'll see the 13MP primary camera along with the LED flash on its right and the fingerprint sensor placed right below it. There is also a 10.or branding on the bottom. This is a design which has become synonymous with most budget smartphone operators.

On the right edge lies the volume rocker and power buttons and SIM trays are sandwiched on the left edge of the smartphone. The bottom edge has the micro USB port and the speaker grille and the 3.5mm jack is placed on the top.

In a nutshell, the company has adopted a very simple and basic design for the smartphone. However, the built is sturdy and one-hand operations were not a problem at all.

The design did dampen the expectations but the display of the device makes up for it. The colour reproduction is bring and vibrant yet remains accurate. The colours ae balanced and there's very little saturation. One doesn't notice any pixilation and most images come out sharp. The viewing angles on the phone are also spot on. 10.or E's display is certainly one its better features.

Performance

10.or E is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor and comes in two storage variants - 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage and 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. It has a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP front facing snapper. The smartphone runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat and houses a 4,000mAh battery.

The 10.or E smartphone comes with stock Android - a feature that gives the smartphone better performance and a more lasting battery. Having no bloatware on the device just adds to the performance. However, the 10.or E does come with the Amazon app and a 10.or Care app.

The smartphone is capable enough to handle day-to-day tasks with relative ease. Budget phones aren't really known to deliver extraordinary performance. As long as you don't have lofty expectations, you won't be disappointed with 10.or E's performance. For routine smartphone activities like messaging, browsing the Web or social media platforms, and making long-duration calls, 10.or E performed adequately.

It isn't flawless by any stretch as there is a noticeable lag while switching between various apps and multiple tabs of Chrome. Multi-tasking isn't a strong point of the smartphone. Another disappointing aspect of the smartphone is that it warms up considerably when used for navigation or gaming. Playing simple games like Angry Birds led to the phone heating up.

One of the most impressive feature of 10.or E is the battery it packs in. In what could go as an entry into Ripley's Believe or Not, the smartphone lasted two entire days on moderate usage of browsing the Web, watching videos and surfing social media networks, making calls - in nutshell an average usage of a smartphone user. One doesn't expect smartphones' battery to last this long and 10.or E certainly gets a thumbs up for its battery performance.

The call quality of the device was clear and in areas like elevators and basements there was no trouble to make or receive calls. There is a fingerprint sensor which works mostly but there are better ones around in the same price bracket.

The camera of the device delivers decent shots in well-lit areas. However, in dimly lit areas, the performance drops. For instance, while taking a shot in a low light area, it takes a lot of time to focus on the object to be clicked. The colour reproduction was also below par and the selfie camera isn't too great either. Just use it for basic selfies that have to be edited before you consider uploading them on social media.

We also ran a few tests on the device and it scored 45349 in Antutu benchmark, and 655 and 2500 in single core and multi core scores of the Geekbench test.

Verdict

10.or E is an average budget smartphone. Frankly, our expectations weren't that high to begin with. At a price of Rs 8,999, the phone could easily have had a better camera and more innovative design. The phone does warm up considerably as well which didn't bode too well for us. The good battery life and vibrant display are the redeeming factors. As always this is a category where there are a lot of options to pick from. Throw in a few more bucks and you can get the Lenovo K8 Plus which is a considerably better smartphone. This is a tough category to crack and 10.or has a real battle on its hands if it wants to make its presence felt. 10.or E is a modest and satisfactory option to choose from.
