Here is highlights from the MWC 2017 so far

The MWC 2017 has been pretty eventful so far with a handful of announcements made by the companies. Crucial among them was the arrival of the new-gen Nokia 3310, the LG G6, as well as the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus. However, these weren’t the only devices shown off during yesterday’s event. Let’s have a look at some of the crucial announcements that were made at the MWC so far.

Sony:

Earlier today, Sony has unveiled a slew of flagship phones with the Xperia XZ Premium taking the cake as one of the most powerful smartphones launched in 2017. This tag will probably remain intact unless Samsung pulls off something miraculous with the Galaxy S8 next month. The XZ Premium is equipped with a 4K Triluminos display and the powerhouse Snapdragon 835 octa-core chipset.

The Xperia XA1 is a budget device, and will probably feature in a wide range of markets. The company also released the XA1 Ultra and the XZs with the former being a 6-inch phablet and the latter sporting a 5.2-inch Full HD panel.

Nokia:

Accompanying the Nokia 6 from last month was the Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 which was shown off yesterday. The company also unveiled the Arte Black version of the Nokia 6, in addition to the hot favorite Nokia 3310 which has garnered all the attention so far. The Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 are running Android 7.0 Nougat on board with budget hardware, so they’re not particularly competing with the big guys out there.

LG:

The company’s launch event yesterday was only host to the LG G6 with its attractive design and the (almost) bezel-less display with a perfect aspect ratio. The smartphone will hopefully bring LG back to relevancy after last year’s disappointment in the form of the LG G5.

Samsung:

The Korean manufacturer was expected to have a low key event at the MWC, which was true for the most part. The manufacturer unveiled the Galaxy Tab S3 which was widely rumored since the past few weeks. The tablet comes with a Super AMOLED display and a Snapdragon 820 SoC on board. The addition of an S Pen and a dedicated keyboard makes the Galaxy Tab S3 an exciting productivity tablet to own.

BlackBerry/TCL:

The company is back to its basics with the BlackBerry KeyOne, which was previously rumored as the ‘Mercury’. The handset comes with Android and the iconic BlackBerry keyboard, which will give users the best of both worlds. We really hope that the device eventually makes its way to the Indian shores.

Huawei:

The much expected P10 and the P10 Plus were featured at the company’s dedicated event yesterday. One of the key highlights of the two devices is the inclusion of the Leica branded dual-lens (consisting of a monochrome and standard sensor) camera. The company has added some software magic with the two devices to offer ‘Portrait Mode’ photography like on the Apple iPhone 7 Plus.

There’s more to come from the MWC with a couple of events lined up by companies like Acer, Alcatel, HTC, Oppo and others. Keep an eye out for all the latest news from the MWC 2017.
