After Being Human, Salman Khan eyes smartphone market with 'BeingSmart'

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is reportedly working on a new venture called BeingSmart. Under this brand, budget and mid-range smartphones will be manufactured to sell exclusively in India. Similar to Being Human brand, it will be a not-for-profit entity. Therefore, profits from the company will be directed towards charity and social work.

"Salman is currently building an operational management team to be headed by a professional with leadership stints at Samsung and Micromax,” says a report by ET.

The actor has already registered BeingSmart trademark, adds the report, and a manufacturing plant in China was chosen to manufacture handsets whose target audience are budget and mid-range smartphone buyers.

In an already crowded smartphone market, this new brand from the actor should contrive a groundbreaking innovation or resort to aggressive pricing to vie with the likes of Xiaomi, Oppo, LeEco, Lyf, Vivo, etc.

We have already witnessed how Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Lyf mobiles came out of the blue and disrupted the market by launching LTE and VoLTE enabled phones. In fact, it became the fifth largest smartphone brand and second largest LTE vendor in India. Therefore, there is a bright chance for every player in the second largest smartphone market to exploit the wanting for smartphones, especially when Indians are predicted to buy one billion phones in next five years.

We have to wait and see if BeingSmart can create a footprint in the Indian smartphone industry.
