One of the many strengths of the Google Play Store is that you can download apps and manage purchases right from your web browser.
When you go to download an app from Google Play on the web, clicking Install will reveal all your Android devices that can run that app. Unfortunately, by default the names can be rather wonky, like “SM-G930A” or other technical descriptions.
To give your phone or tablet a more human name, head to the Play Store and go to Settings. You’ll see a list similar to this.
Next, touch Edit on the phone, tablet, or Android TV device that you want to assign a new name. You’ll then be able to write whatever you wish in the box.
Once that’s finished, just click update.
You’ll then see the new name assigned to that piece of hardware.
Now when you go to install a new app, you’ll see the new name from the dropdown list.
This process can be repeated any time you want to change the name of a device or when get a new phone and want to give it a name that’s easier to identify.
