The Indian Government , under the supervision of the Ministry of Information Technology has launched Cyber Swachhta Kendra (CSK) to safeguard users from malicious content. The CSK will work with ISPs and other major institutions to offer users the tools to fight malware on their machines.
Whenever something malicious is noticed at the CSK, it will be analyzed and the details will be sent to the ISPs, who will then notify the users of the same via email or text messages. Users will then be redirected to the CSK webpage to download the necessary software to combat the infections on their PC or mobile.
Created in accordance with the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Quick Heal Technologies, and Amrita University, the project has been developed with a budget of Rs 90 crores.
Union Minister of Information Technology,Ravi Shankar Prasad said “India is going to take a lead in the digitization process of the world. We have joined the distinguished club of countries that already have malware cleaning systems for the use of its citizens. As of now, we have 13 banks & Internet service providers using this facility. With the expanding digital footprint in the country, I see a surge in start-ups in the area of cyber security by the end of the year.”
This is a fairly ambitious project by the Indian Government and will serve to help a wide range of users in the country. However, we’re yet to see it in practice, so it will be too soon to pass a judgment on the same.
