6 tips to avoid damage to battery while charging phone

We know so much about smartphones. But yet there is one component inside it that remains somewhat mysterious. That is battery. Why does it drain so much faster on some occasions? Why does it heat up so much while charging? What is the proper life of a battery in a phone? Is it one year or two? For consumers it is difficult to get definite answers to these questions because battery performance in a phone depends on so many factors, including the ambient temperature and the cellular signal strength.

However, what we can tell you is the right way to charge your phone, courtesy the tips shared by Google. Here is what Google says about charging your phone and the best possible way to do so in a bid to enhance the life of battery.

1. Use the charger that came with your phone. Google says that other charger may charge slowly, not at all, or damage your device or battery.
2. There is a saying that when you get a new phone, you should calibrate its battery. Google says it is rubbish. "You don't need to teach your device how much capacity the battery has by going from totally charged to completely drained," says the company.
3. You should keep your phone cool. The heat is an enemy of battery. It drains battery faster, and it sucks away its life. So according to Google, avoid situations where your device can overheat. "Your battery will drain much faster when it's hot, even if you're not using it, and this can even damage your battery. Keep in mind that your device warms up when it's plugged in, so try not to keep it charging all the time," says the company. To add to this, we feel this tip is particularly important in places like Delhi where in summer ambient temperature can touch 40-degrees if you are not in an environment cooled with an AC.
4. Try to keep the battery half full. Or as Google says it, "For the best battery lifespan, try to keep your battery charged above 50 per cent as much as possible." And in Guru Google, we trust!
5. Doctors must have told you that binge eating is bad. And so are hunger pangs. Apparently, it is true for smartphones too. This means, you should regularly give your phone bite-size battery charge. "Small charges throughout the day are best for battery health. Battery lifespan can suffer if it's charged from zero to full and then completely drained on a regular basis," says Google.
6. At time we need to store the phone for prolonged period. In such instances Google believes that the phone should be stored with battery half full.
