DIY Ayurvedic Hair Oil For All Your Hair Woes

Latest Govt. Jobs 22:14:00 Hair Care Edit

Both men and women resort to various measures to ensure their hair and scalp health are not compromised. As a matter of fact, your hair gets exposed to various weather elements, sunlight, pollutants, saline water, etc., all through the year. All these take a toll on the health and appearance of your hair, no matter if it is short or long, straightened or curly. So, it is necessary that you use suitable products to restore the hair health and minimize the damage to the scalp and the hair. Using OTC hair care products are not effective for all and chemicals used in such products can actually worsen hair problems at times. Using Ayurvedic and herbal hair solutions is the viable alternative.

Making Ayurvedic Hair Oil For Hair Growth And Health:

While you can find quite a lot of brands selling hair oils and serums with tags like herbal, all-natural and Ayurvedic, it is difficult to know the authenticity of the manufacturing process. Rather than believing blindly in marketing and sales pitches, it is better that you make Ayurvedic hair oil at home. You can use quality and organic herbal natural extracts to make these oils at home. It is not tedious if you use the right ingredients and learn the proper methods. Below listed are methods for making 3 types of Ayurvedic hair oils.

1. Ayurvedic Amla Oil:

Amla or Indian gooseberry has been used widely in Ayurveda since the ancient ages. This fruit is rich in vitamin C, and its use can help you fight hair loss, make the hair darker and prevent premature greying. The use of coconut oil with amla helps hydrate the scalp and gives the hair a glow from within. You will need to use ingredients like:
  • Amla powder – 100 grams
  • Virgin coconut oil – 250 grams
  • Water – 4 liters
How To Make:
  1. First, you will need to make a decoction. For this, add a third of the amla powder to the water and then boil it on low heat. Take a big container for boiling the amla powder in water.
  2. Stir the mixture constantly and wait till the amount of water gets reduced to 1 liter.
  3. After that, you will have to strain the mixture with a fine cloth.
  4. Now take the remaining amla powder and make a paste using water.
  5. Take a large pot. Pour the concentrated decoction, the paste and coconut oil into it.
  6. Heat the pot and stir until the water gets evaporated. You may try burning the mixture on a stove to see if the water has evaporated. If it has not, there will be a cracking noise.
  7. Store the oil in a glass container and seal it properly. Use it twice a week or so for the best results.

2. Ayurvedic Tulsi Hair Oil:

Tulsi is an herb used in Indian Ayurveda since ages. It is used for its decongestant properties to make cough medications mostly. However, you may use tulsi to make herbal hair oil that resolves a number of scalp problems. It can help resolve bumps on the scalp and itchy scalp, for example. When made with pure coconut oil, the tulsi Ayurvedic oil can make the hair healthier, shinier, and you will have a healthy scalp too. You will require the following ingredients:
  • Fresh tulsi leaves (or tulsi leaves powder)
  • Virgin coconut oil
  • Water
  • Fenugreek seeds
How To Make:
  1. Take a bunch of tulsi leaves or a few spoonfuls of tulsi powder. Make a thick paste using water and mixer/grinder if you are using leaves.
  2. Now pour 100 ml coconut oil in a bowl and add the paste to it.
  3. Put it on low heat and keep stirring.
  4. You may also add a few fenugreek seeds.
  5. Switch off the flame after some time and let the oil cool.
  6. Strain the prepared oil into a glass container.
  7. When you want to use the oil, warm it slightly and massage into the scalp using your fingers. Wait for 20 minutes and then rinse with a mild shampoo and water. You may apply this oil twice a week.

3. Ayurvedic Hibiscus Hair Oil:

Hibiscus is a shrub with bright-hued flowers that grows in abundance in the tropical countries. Its leaves and flowers have been used since a long time to make hair solutions. Using Ayurvedic hibiscus hair oil can be beneficial in fighting hair fall and hair thinning. You can use almost any type of hibiscus, but using the variants with bright red coloured flowers and thicker leaves brings the best results. You will need the ingredients like:
  • 5-6 fresh hibiscus flowers
  • A few hibiscus leaves
  • Virgin coconut oil
How To Make:
  1. You will need to wash the hibiscus leaves and flowers well.
  2. Then chop them using a mixer/grinder and make a fine paste.
  3. Now you have to take a mid-sized bowl and pour the coconut oil into it. About 200 ml of oil should be good enough.
  4. Heat the oil and then pour the paste into it. Mix with a ladle and stir while keeping the flame low.
  5. Drop a few fenugreek seeds on it to see if they pop up.
  6. When that happens, you may turn off the stove.
  7. When the oil cools down, strain it using a cloth and pour into a glass bottle.
  8. Before every application, heat up this oil lightly and massage on the scalp and hair. Using this oil once or twice a week should be helpful.

Tips To Get The Best Results:

It is advisable that you store these Ayurvedic hair oils in a cool place, away from sunlight. Since they do not contain any artificial preservatives, heat and exposure to weather elements can affect their composition. Also, ensure you close the lids well after every use so that nothing can get into them. When stored in the right way, these oils can last for a year or so.
Try these simple recipes to make Ayurvedic oils at home, and you will never resort to buying another oil from the market!
