Nokia 3 and Nokia 8 start receiving Android Oreo update

Nokia 3 and Nokia 8 start receiving Android Oreo update in India: Report
HMD global is reportedly rolling out an update for both its flagship smartphone, Nokia 8 and budget smartphone, Nokia 3.

As per a report by Nokiapoweruser, HMD Global is rolling out the February Android security update for both the devices. The report lists out the markets where these updates are receiving this update. While both handsets users in India will get this update, the Nokia 3 update will also come to Hungary and Thailand and the Nokia 8 update will also be rolled out in Jordan.

The report further reveals that these updates will bring a fix for a security vulnerability in Media framework. This could enable a remote attacker using a specially crafted file to execute arbitrary code.

The file size of the security update in Nokia 3 is 79.3MB and Nokia 8 is 86.9MB. Users will be prompted to download this update and in case they are not, they can check for the update by going to Settings and searching system updates and then by checking for the update.

HMD has been consistent in terms of releasing monthly security updates and also rolling out the latest Android Oreo 8.0 for the Nokia smartphones. Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 all have started receiving the Oreo update. Nokia 8 was the first smartphone by any OEM to get Android 8.0 Oreo under beta, followed by an official rollout.

Nokia 3 has also been confirmed to receive the update by none other than the HMD chief product officer Juho Sarvikas, who revealed this on Twitter. He also said that the Nokia 2 "will go straight to 8.1 to get memory optimization features as it is a 1GB RAM device." The Nokia 3 is currently selling at Rs 7,800 online, which was launched in India in June last year with a price tag of Rs 9,499.
