Over 7 months after it was publicly rolled out, Jio has become the world's biggest wireless network in terms of data consumption claims Reliance. The company in its Q4 results says that Jio moves over 110 GB data every month along with 220 crore voice and video minutes of calls daily. This makes Jio the biggest wireless network in the world, claims the company.
"Jio users are today consuming nearly as much data as on all the mobile networks in the USA and 50% more data than mobile networks in China in a clear indication that India will adopt digitisation and Digital Life faster than anyone else in the world," Reliance said in its Q4 financial report. "On Jio's network, peak simultaneous video streams seen on a daily basis are more than double of that seen at the Super Bowl event in the USA."
After years of trial, Jio was launched publicly in September last year. It was free to use, with every user allowed around 1GB 4G data per day, until April 15. But since then Jio has become a paid service, although its plans and pricing remain the best value in the market. The company nowadays is offering plans that start with Rs 303 under its Dhan Dhana Dhan offer. These plans are available to all users, although those who are not the members of Jio Prime, or are new, have to take spend an additional Rs 99to get this membership.
Jio said that it had over 108 million users in India on March 31. Of these around 72 million had subscribed to the Jio Prime membership.
Jio Fibre is next
Along with the details on Jio's current status, the Q4 report from Reliance also talks of the future plan. Specifically, it singles out the Jio Fibre, the wired broadband service that the company will offer to consumers soon.
"The company continues to make progress on the roll-out of its Fibre to the Home (FTTH) business offering with beta trials initiated in a few locations. It would expand the scope of the beta trials over the next few months," said Jio.
Earlier, India Today Tech had reported that Jio had started Fibre broadband testing in Mumbai. The company has started offering it as a beta service in several localities in Mumbai and is now planning to start something similar in Kolkata. To start with Jio Fibre is offering speed of up to 100mbps free for three months.
Although, it does have a data cap of 100GB per month and users also have to pay Rs 4500 for installation of equipment. Although this fee is refundable in case a user doesn't want to continue with the service after the trial period of 3 months.
