Google just changed and updated Google’s Compatibility Definition Document, which tells the original equipment manufacturers what they can and cannot do on Android. The changes to the document now state that you cannot change or alter the Android notification features and bundling. The updates to the Compatibility Definition Document for Android will impact smartphones that are running Android Nougat 7.1.1. This means that the smartphone makers who choose to run the older version of Google’s operating system will not have to follow these updated requirements. Google is basically trying to reign in the original equipment manufacturers that use Android as the operating system. While this change might seem like nothing to most people, it could significantly impact those companies that are running Android Nougat 7.1.1 on their devices.
If you are a little confused on what this is all about, we can try to clear that up for you. The Android smartphone manufacturers often times will use an overlay on Android phones, and this impacts how the notifications function sometimes. Now, Google is prohibiting manufacturers from taking off the features in Android’s notification actions. This also means that Google prohibits the manufacturers from altering the notifications bundling, replies, and other settings that impact Android’s own notification system.
Google put in the updated document that all device implementations have to support all of the bundling notifications that Android has built into the system. This includes being able to support replying, removing and updating the device as the Android Nougat 7.1.1 operating system originally runs. So essentially, the device manufacturers need to allow features such as being able to mute, block, and reset the notification preferences from within the package. The manufacturers also have to allow notifications to be controlled from the notification shade. All of these things have to be done from within the settings app and inline.
As far as the Android device manufacturers go, most of them never do change the notifications settings on Android. Google still thinks it is a wise idea to ensure that all equipment manufacturers know that changing the notification bundling is completely prohibited. Again, this is for those who are running Android 7.1.1 on their Android device. Google wants everyone to experience Android the same way, and this is one way to ensure that there is consistency across the board. It also is going to be beneficial to the app developers because now notifications will be sent out the same way to all Android devices.
For app developers, it can be difficult not knowing whether or not the app notifications will be working the same way across the various Android devices considering that the manufacturers could change them. Developers have been pausing on using the notifications features on Android Nougat 7.1.1 because of these possible hiccups regarding how the Android device manufacturers might change the notification bundling.

Basically, the new Android notifications system will allow for users to see all of their notifications quickly without taking up too much time or space.
