Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 rumoured to have Snapdragon 660 inside

Xiaomi has begun the year with the launch of people’s favourite Redmi Note 4 smartphone in India. On February 8, the company announced Redmi Note 4X in China alongside limited edition Hatsune Miku handsets. Now a big news is coming up from the rumour mills, that Xiaomi is working on a new smartphone which will boast Qualcomm’s latest 6 series chipset Snapdragon 660. Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 is the successor to the Snapdragon 652 chipset used in mid-range smartphones.

The name of the smartphone is still unknown, but the mega minds of tech industry are expecting it to be the Red Pro 2. In a recent leak, Redmi Pro 2 was spotted running on the similar chipset. The leak was spotted by GizmoChina after a user posted a report on Weibo, that shows that the Snapdragon 660 will be featuring Samsung’s 14nm LLP process technology.

As of now, Xiaomi has not revealed anything about the handset or about using Snapdragon 660 in any of its handsets. As per the reports, the Snapdragon 660 may come packed with its custom Kyro cores, similar to the Snapdragon 820 chipset. Apart from that, rumours also suggests that the chipset may have a combination of 4 x Cortex A73 CPU cores clocked at 2.2GHz paired with 4 x Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.9GHz. Moreover, SD660 is assumed to have support for UFS 2.1 storage and will also have two LPDDR4 RAMs clocked at 1855MHz.

Other than Redmi Pro 2 the Snapdragon 660 chipset is rumoured to be used on Redmi Note 5 and Mi Max 2 as well. The Snapdragon 660 is expected to begin mass production in Q2 2017 and should appear in phones from OPPO and Vivo too.
