National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched an iOS version of BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) app. The app is now available as a free download on the Apple app store.
The BHIM iOS app will have features like pay to Aadhaar number, spam reporting and customer redressal mechanism with drop down menu, NPCI said in a statement. These features were recently introduced in BHIM's Android app.
The iOS app however currently supports only English and Hindi in comparison to its Android app that supports English and eight Indian languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi among others.
"The BHIM app will now cater to almost 100% smartphone users in the country with the launch on iOS platform. This will ensure wider acceptance for digital transactions among consumers across all sections" said NPCI managing director and CEO AP Hota.
"Though market share of iPhones is not very large in India, users of iPhone are high transacting customers. Therefore, it is a development of special significance as it will help to boost transaction volumes." Hota added.
Earlier this month, finance minister Arun Jaitley said in his Budget 2017 speech that they will be rolling two new schemes to promote the usage of BHIM app - cashback schemes for individuals and referral discounts for merchants. The app which was launched in December 2016, claims to now have 1.25 crore users.
