Microsoft is betting big on its connected vehicle platform to change the way vehicle manufacturers and aggregators engage with technology. The software giant, which launched the platform last month, is looking to engage with manufacturers and aggregators beyond its partnership with Tata Motors for the same in India."There is a huge investment (globally) happening in the entire value chain of connected vehicle platform. When that investment happens, we want to be a provider of the platform that's why we are building this technology as a platform. We think that's a massive platform opportunity," Norm Judah, Chief Technology Officer of Microsoft Services told ET.
While Judah declined to name companies that they were talking to, he admitted that the list in India will be a significant one, which will go beyond cars as well.
"We call it connected vehicle because it is not only about cars. Anything that moves is go ing to have a similar constraint in being able to connect, provide, and manage services," Judah said.
Microsoft's aggressive efforts to pursue partners for the connected vehicle platform comes at a time when cab aggregator Ola has built its own connected car platform Ola Play -a platform that has seen the company garner a 300% increase in growth on its subscription platform. But Judah points out that for such a platform to be successful in India, the narrative has to shift from scale to innovation, and soon.
"This is one of the places where India has to move as well. The technology business moves quickly and changes constantly," he said while warning that running after scale might just cost India dearly."India has some great developers but if they don't change somebody else might do it."
Microsoft believes the next technology wave is the shift from cloud to artificial intelligence, data and programming, and India must be able to adopt and let go of redundant technology to move in tandem with the world.
