Apple is developing a new processor chip which will use ARM technology and will handle features such as the Power Nap in MacOS.
Although Apple is no stranger to the creation of its own processors (iPhones and iPads use internally developed A series SoCs), it relies heavily on Intel products to equip their laptops and desktops. Now, according to Bloomberg, the Cupertino-based company is working on a new chip to handle those functions that do not require a lot of computing power.
The processor developed by Apple will powered by ARM technology and will handle features such as the Power Nap in MacOS, which allows you to synchronize calendars, and download emails and software updates while the laptop screen is closed and turned off.
Rumors indicate that it will be similar to Apple’s ARM-based T1 chip used to power the MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar, which sits on the keyboard and displays contextual action buttons for various applications. However, this new processor will be designed to work alongside the Intel SoCs that equip Macs and will allow even lower power consumption than is currently possible with Power Nap.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a report earlier this month that Apple is likely to release new 12-inch MacBook models with Kaby Lake processors and 16GB RAM options in the second quarter of 2017 as well as a 15-inch MacBook with 32GB of RAM sometime in the fourth quarter.
So, let see if these new chips are included in the Macbook released this year or will come in the future Macs of 2018.
