NEW DELHI: Popular e-wallet Paytm has begun rolling out an important update to its iOS app. The update introduces a much-needed security feature - Touch ID-based authentication.
The update bumps Paytm's iOS app to version 5.8.3 and also brings in some bug fixes for an improved user experience.
After the update, the app will ask users to setup Touch ID. However, users can also skip the setup and access it later access by navigating to Profile > Security > Settings.
Once Touch ID is configured, users will have to authenticate themselves every time the app is accessed. It will ask for fingerprint authentication whenever users tap on the Pay or Passbook button. Only after that the users will be able to initiate payments.
The company has said that this additional security layer will protect users' Paytm wallet even if their smartphone is lost or misplaced. Last month, Paytm rolled out the same security feature for Android.
Paytm recently announced that it has expanded its reach to non-internet users who use feature phones as well.
The company has launched a toll free number - 1800 1800 1234, to enable customers and merchants without internet connections pay/receive money instantly and recharge their smartphones.
To use this service, users (both customers and merchants) first need to register with Paytm through their mobile number and set a 4-digit Paytm PIN. They can then enter the recipient's mobile number, amount and their Paytm PIN to transfer the money from their Paytm wallet to another Paytm wallet.
