When it comes to the Indian smartphone market, Lenovo can be considered to be quite an active player. The company has launched numerous smartphones this year, such as K4 Note, Zuk Z1 and Vibe K5.

But that's not all. Lenovo recently launched K6 Power smartphone, targeted at budget-conscious buyers. From a metal unibody design to a big battery, the K6 Power checks nearly all the boxes. But is it really any good when it comes to daily tasks? And should you pay Rs 9,999 for it?

We played with the K6 Power for a few days and here's the rest of our review.

Design and displayLenovo K6 Power smartphone comes with a gently rounded form factor and a metallic unibody design. This is something majority of smartphones have these days, so it's not really anything special. But even though it's affordably-priced, the Lenovo K6 Power doesn't feel cheap and is solidly built.

Its 5-inch screen is optimum for one-handed use. Above the display is the earpiece, a proximity sensor and an 8MP front-facing camera. There are three capacitive navigation keys below the display. However, they aren't backlit.

Coming to the sides, the right edge of the smartphone houses the volume rocker and power key, while the left edge is where the SIM card tray is. The top edge has a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB port. We really liked the placement of the microUSB port, as it makes it easy to use the smartphone even when it's being charged.

At the back, the K6 Power features a 13MP camera with LED flash, a fingerprint sensor and Lenovo branding. The back also houses Dolby Atmos-powered loudspeaker. However, the rear placement of the speakers leads to the audio output being muffled when the phone is resting on a flat surface.

Moving on to the display, the Lenovo K6 Power has a 5-inch Full HD display of 1080x1920 pixel resolution. With around 441ppi pixel density, we found the display to be really good. Sunlight legibility and viewing angles are impressive. The phone offers two colour modes for the display - Normal (for balanced colours) and Vibrant (for enhanced colours).

Overall, we found the Lenovo K6 Power's build quality to be solid. That said, it's quite generic-looking.

Performance and camera

Conforming to the specifications typical of budget smartphones these days, Lenovo K6 Power is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC paired with 3GB RAM. There's 32GB of internal storage but you can use microSD cards of up to 128GB as well. The smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Lenovo's Vibe UI skin layer.

The phone offers gesture-based features such as 'Quick Snap,' which lets you click a picture by double pressing any of the volume keys even when the screen is off. You can also set up a 'Dual pp profile' which lets you use two versions of the same app. Apart from this, there's a 'Secure Zone' that allows you to configure apps, accounts, wallpapers, lockscreen passwords and settings that are different from the current zone.

During our time with the device, we found the overall performance of the K6 Power to be quite satisfactory. The phone handled heavy usage involving multi-tasking to random app switching without any heating issues. The fingerprint sensor works fine and is quite easy to set up. Audio quality is also really good. But we did experience a little lag while scrolling.

As for the cellular reception, it was good during our testing. The phone handled calls well even in areas of problematic coverage such as basements.

Coming to the battery life, the Lenovo K6 Power's 4,000mAh battery easily lasted us more than a full day on a single charge with moderate use. This included playing games and browsing social media for a few hours, all while staying connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data.

The phone has VR mode, which worked fine during our testing.

Moving on to the cameras, Lenovo K6 Power has a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing shooter. The camera app itself has modes like Panorama, Art nightscapes, Artistic HDR and others. The Pro Mode offers advanced features with manual controls for things like shutter speed and focus. Other software-based features of the app include a Face Beauty mode for better selfies

The photos that we took using the K6 Power's rear camera were, for the most part, decent. They pack fair amount of detail and colour reproduction is good too. All in all, we'd say that the K6 Power's cameras are sufficient for day to day use.

VerdictAt an affordable price of Rs 9,999, the Lenovo K6 Power offers some really good specifications such as a large 4,000mAh battery, 3GB RAM, 13MP rear camera and a Full HD display. In the sub 10K price segment, it's definitely one of the best smartphones you can get.

For those looking at alternatives within the same price range, the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime is another option worth buying.
