Watching movies at home is something nearly all of us enjoy doing. And having a portable projector only makes the whole experience better as it literally transforms your living room into a home theatre.
BenQ, a well-known player in the projector market, recently launched its CH100 portable projector in India. Priced at Rs 1,50,000, it is compact enough to be carried anywhere in a bag. But is it what you need to have your own very own home theatre?
We spent a few days with the BenQ CH100, and here's the rest of our review.
Look and feel
We really liked the look and feel of the BenQ CH100. The projector's design is simple and minimal. The White-coloured projector has a rectangular body that comes with a glossy finish and rounded edges.
At the back, there are a number of ports including HDMI (2), Audio (2), USB port (1) and microUSB (1). and PC-in (1) to connect the projector to the computer.
There is also a small screw at the bottom of the unit for adjusting the projection angle as required.
BenQ CH100 comes with a remote controller which can be used to do everything from adjusting volume to playing/pausing projected content.

BenQ CH100 comes with native support for Full HD projection of 1920x1080 pixels. Its lens has a focal length of 11.62mm and a claimed l with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, and has a lens with a focal length of 11.62mm. Lamp life is claimed to be between 20,000 hours and 30,000 hours.
The contrast ratio of the CH100 projector is 100,000:1, and this makes projected content appear really sharp and vibrant.
Performance
In the time we spent with the CH100, we really liked the quality of the projected images and videos. Projected content is really sharp and bright, and on par with any high-end Full HD TV.
Colour reproduction is quite accurate, even when the content is projected on non-White surfaces.
When we used CH100, we did not encounter any pixelation, which of course is a big plus. There is no lag between projected content and that being played on the source device either, which we found to be really good.
BenQ CH100 allows you to seamlessly adjust viewing angles, which helped in aligning the projected content accurately during our testing.
There is also a small screw at the bottom of the unit for adjusting the projection angle as required.

The fan of the projector does not make any noticeable noise, even when used for prolonged time. We even used it to watch a full movie and didn't encounter any problems at all.
However, there's quite a difference in colours of the content projected in a dark room and that projected in a room where there is light.
Also, we found the audio output of the BenQ CH100 to be disappointing. If the volume is too high, the audio output gets muffled. So if you plan on using the projector for watching a movie or playing a game, we recommend connecting external speakers.
Other than this, we didn't encounter any problems with the BenQ CH100. Overall, our experience with the portable projector was largely good.

We quite liked BenQ's CH100 portable projector. It's surely capable of making the movie watching experience at home a delight. Overall projected content (both images and video) quality is good.
