Uber app gets new features

NEW DELHI: Ride-sharing service Uber has rolled out a new update for its Rider app. The new update introduces quite a few features that are aimed at enhancing the overall user experience.

In an official press statement, Uberspokesperson said, "Riders in India and around the world, expressed desire for better product discoverability, perfect pickup experience and a simpler, faster interface. For riders in India, this new app gives us the opportunity to improve app performance on 2G and 3G networks, and give riders a good experience in low/ poor connectivity zones as well."
The new changes in the app include:

● Destination first: The app first asks the user —"Where to?" After all, riders use Uber to get somewhere or to someone. And by starting with the rider destination, the journey can be tailored to their needs better.

● Shortcuts: The app now learns from riders' routines. So frequent riders can see "shortcuts" that predict where they could be headed. This means riders can get moving with just one tap.

● Calendar Integration: Soon, the riders will also be able to connect their calendar with Uber. Once connected, all their meetings and appointments will automatically appear as 'shortcuts,' saving them the hassle of digging through yet another app to find the right address.
● People Search: To be introduced soon, the feature will enable riders to set their destination to a person instead of a place. Riders just need to sync their contacts with the app, type a name into the search bar and once they've shared their location, they can get moving.

● Choose your car & compare upfront fare: After entering the destination in "Where to?" field, the riders can decide how to get there. If the rider is on the way to a party or with business associates, a more spacious uberX or uberBLACK ride is preferred, while an uberGO serves as the most affordable everyday ride. For a run-of-the-mill trip to the market or the lowest cost option, an uberPOOL can be availed.

● On trip integrations: Soon, Uber will offer more experiences tailored around rider destinations. These will include on-trip integrations with other utility based mobile applications, social media platforms and news aggregators, amongst others.

The update (and the aforementioned changes and new features) is being rolled out in a phased manner. Presently, it is only available to selected users.
