MobiKwik Lite mobile wallet app launched, to work on 2G

NEW DELHI: Mobile payments firm MobiKwikhas launched a 'Lite' version to its mobile wallet application. With a 1MB size and downloadable within thirty seconds, the app has been developed to help users with poor internet connectivity.


It supports Hindi and English language as of now. As per the firm, it is working on adding support for regional languages soon. Users can also download the app by giving a miss call to +919029059700 and subsequently sign up with their cell phone number.

As per the firm, shopkeepers or retailers can download the new app by giving a missed call to 80971-80971 from any Android smartphone following which they will receive a link to download the app. Once users click on the link, they will be taken to the Downloads page where the app can be downloaded within 30 seconds, even on a 2G data connection.
The app is compatible with Android v2.3 and iOS. It supports receiving payments, bank transfers, P2P transfers, bill payments, and recharges. The company also plans to launch an offline version of the app soon.


Recently, MobiKwik announced that users would now be able to transfer money instantly to any bank account at a 0% fee. The company announced the feature in the wake of the central government's recent demonetisation drive banning Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 bills.


Earlier, MobiKwik used to charge a 4% transaction fee for a regular user and 1% for a KYC user. The company also introduced a user support number operational 24x7. Customers can call on the number to resolve their queries and start sending/receiving money for free.


The company reported that it has recorded an 18% growth in transactions since the announcement of the demonetisation drive.
