Sony A6300 Camera Review: Over the past couple of years, the compact or mirrorless system camera category has been growing and that too for the good reason. These cameras DSLR levels of the quality and functionality in a compact body that is relatively easy to be carry around. Now Sony has been quite aggressive with the launch of its A6300 that is available for Rs. 74,990, let’s take a deep look.
DESIGN and BUILD
The A6300 reminds us a lot of its predecessor, but there are subtle changes that have been made for the better, though roughly at 404g it is a bit heavy. A tougher magnesium alloy body made it moisture and dust resistant.
So starting from the left, it has flap that hides the microphone input, Micro-USB port and Micro-HDMI connector. You can also watch 4K videos as the camera comes bundled with an HDMI. Next up is the electronic viewfinder that has now a XGA OLED display with a magnification of 1.07x and a 2.4 million dot resolution.
Sony A6300 Camera Review
On the top there is a hotshoe flash mount, the mode dial, the control dial and a pop-up flash. In the center of the round On/Off switch the shutter button is placed. All the button at the back are completely customizable so you can assign them according to your shooting style.
The TFT LCD of 3-inch is adjustable up to 90 degrees upwards and around 45 degrees downwards. The resolution is 921K dots so the displayed picture is sharp. Sadly, but it is not the touchscreen. The microSD card and battery are placed at the bottom.
Sony bundles with camera a 64GB Class 10 SDXC memory card. In the box you will get a power adapter for charging, neck strap and instructions. At this price, Sony packages camera with its SELP1650 lens that features a slider for powered zoom and it has built-in stabilization with the Sony’s Optical Steady Shot technology. It has one advantage over its predecessor that it A-mount lenses can now interface with the new tracking and the autofocus features that is built into the camera.
FEATURES:
– New 24.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor.
– To reduce the wiring layer, the new design uses copper that allows for better light collection and a larger photo-diode.
– Another feature is the sheer number of the phase-detection autofocus points
– Another cool feature is the silent shooting
– You will have six main tabs for video settings and stills, Wi-Fi settings, playback options, camera setup and general settings.
– The mini app store of A6300 will let you browse and download the additional apps for the camera.
You will need a Sony’s Play Memories app for Android and iOS to get started. At lower resolution or at the original size the app will let you transfer the images. By the Embedded Smart Remote app, you can your phone as the remote viewfinder.
PERORMANCE:
The A6300 will let you adjust the ISO levels i.e. a third of a stop so you can select 125 and 140 also before jumping to 200. On busy street also the compactness of the Sony A6300 makes it a perfect for shooting and capturing candid shots, that makes it a good tool for the street photography. The tiltable screen does come in the handy for those hard to reach angles. So, if you are shooting in Aperture Priority mode or shooting programs, the new ISO Auto Minimum Shutter Speed is quite handy. This will force the camera to bump up ISO instead of dropping the shutter speed below the limit that you will set and this will help to prevent the pictures from coming out blurry.
With very little chromatic aberration the landscape shots have an excellent detailing. You will also get variety of focus modes to choose but continuous autofocus or AF-C is the one that you will need all the time. The battery is rated 400 shots that is quite low.

There are many features we wish Sony had added to their new model, most notably touchscreen input or a bigger battery.
So A6000 is still good to buy today.
