Motorola Moto G4 Plus Review

The fourth generation Moto G marks the debut of the Lenovo’s branding on the Moto smartphone after Motorola Mobility’s acquisition by Lenovo. The classic logo of Motorola is present too but it is quite clear that the Lenovo aims to make the Moto a sub-brand of itself. Especially while considering the company’s plans to replace the Vibe range with the Moto smartphones.

LOOK and FEEL

The Motorola’s iconic smartphone design continues to live on in G4 Plus and it is certainly identifiable as a Moto product. The rounded metal frame is coupled with the rubber back cover that offers a good grip and ergonomics. The smartphone is a bit larger than its predecessors, so thanks to 5.5-inch Full HD TFT display. The display manages to produce the punchy colours and the sunlight legibility is very good. For added protection the Gorilla Glass 3 is also present. The Moto G4 Plus is fairly slim at 7.9mm and it has good weight distribution.

For a fingerprint sensor the Moto G4 Plus ditches the trademark bottom grille. The sensor can easily recognize your fingerprints from a few intermittent misreads and from any angle, it works very well all the time.

The Micro-USB port and the headphone jack take their places on the bottom and top respectively. The 16-megapixel sensor is accompanied by the dual-tone LED flash and the laser autofocus system, that is substantial upgrade.

At the back it has non-removable 3000mAh battery and two slots at the side for a microSD card and the two Micro-SIMs. The retail box of the smartphone contains a headset and TurboPower charger of 25W. you will need a separate USB cable for the data transfer because the wall charger is not modular.

– The smartphone uses the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 SoC, that is an octa-core chip running at 1.5 GHz

– On board storage you will get 32 GB and RAM if 16GB.

PERFORMANCE

The Moto G4 is one snappy performer, without any bloatware slowing it down. There is no lags or slow-down in animations and while switching between the apps. But the SoC does warm quickly when using GPS or data or when gaming. If the phone is warm you will notice a bit of lag in the camera app.

– The gallery app has been replaced with the Google’s Photos app, and to be honest this is not the best.

– The smartphone manages to handle full-HD videos and high-bitrate well.

– Music is handled by the Paly Music app

– To quickly lock on the nearby objects, the smartphone also gets a laser autofocus system

VERDICT

The Moto G4 Plus is the welcome evolution of Moto G series, in terms of the performance and features it takes it a step further. The smartphone packs in the SoC upgrade that keeps the latest version of the Android running smoothly, a good camera for daylight photography, all day battery life and a fingerprint sensor.
