Le Max 2 Review
Both the smartphones have been in the news quite a bit, not because their specifications, but due to the fact that they are very first smartphones to ditch the 3.5mm headphone socket for the LeEco’s proprietary digital audio standard called as the CDLA.
So today, we will be reviewing the LeMax 2 i.e. the successor to the Le Max. So let us take a look in detail.
Look and Feel
From the front the Le Max 2 bears some resemblance to its predecessor, but the rest of the body has all-new design that looks and feels a lot more polished. The phone gives the impression of having a bezel-less display but it does in the fact that have thin black borders, that will be visible once the screen is on.
The metal unibody is also a bit slippery, but making the single-handed use awkward. This time LeEco has gone with the more manageable display. A 5.7-inch Quad HD panel is still a plenty good as the pixels are dense enough to indistinguishable to the naked eye. Gorilla Glass protection is also there. The colour reproduction is good along with the good brightness levels and also acceptable sunlight legibility. Navigation will be handled by the backlit capacitive buttons and you will even get a notification LED above the display.

We have a single slot for the two Nano-SIM cards on the left, while on the right the volume and power buttons are placed. There is no microSD card slot as the phone’s storage is not expandable. On the top, there is an infrared emitter and on the bottom there is USB Type-C port and grilles for a mono speaker and for the microphone.
For the camera module the back of the phone has a sizeable protrusion, and the edges of which are prone to scuffing. Below the camera there is a fingerprint sensor, which is better and larger than that on LeMax. The Le Max 2 uses Qualcomm’s Sense ID ultrasonic fingerprint technology.
Specifications and Software:
The Le Max 2 packs in quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, with 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage. Other features include:
- USN OTG
- Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac with 2-stream MU-MIMO
- GPS
- NFC or FM radio
- 4G LTE support for both TDD LTE and FDD
The earphones are good and they provide a good soundstage with the crisp highs and the sharp vocals. But we were not satisfied with the design of the earphones as they sit on your ear and they do not block any ambient noise and due to this the bass response feels muted.
The Le Max 2 uses a new version of software of EUI that is based on Android Marshmallow. The device has all of Android’s useful features including the Now on Tap and also adds some of its own flavor to the mix. The ‘Live’ onscreen button will take you to LeLive service which will let you to stream some popular TV channels.
Performance:
- The Le Max 2 performs quite well with the daily duties so thanks to its loads of RAM and snappy CPU. But during gaming and while recording 4K video we noticed a bit of heating.
- But interface lacks the lightning fast responsiveness that the Nexus devices offer.
- The phone supports the Dolby Atmos, that helps to boost the overall soundstage.
- The volume level for the headphones is pretty good.
- Audio quality is good with 3.5mm adapter
- The performance of the camera is good
- Slow motion video is shot at 720p at 120fps, but the quality is not so good.
