Klipsch Reference X6i in-ear headphones review
Klipsch recently refreshed their aforementioned line of the in-ear headphones, including the top-of-the-line Reference range that includes four models that are ranging from the $179 X6i to the extravagant, $549 Klipsch X20i.
Today we will discuss about the most affordable member of Klipsch Reference range i.e. X6i, the i denotes the audio controls and the mic found attached to the left earbud.
FEATURES and DESIGN:
As per the packaging the earbuds are suspended in a clear plastic box and it look like the flower buds with cable that is neatly tucked away in the plastic base and a subtle touch that goes a long way to ensure you that you are buying a premium product.
The X6i features an excellent build with the thick cable and the die cast zinc driver that are housings. The headphone features a Klipsch’s patented oval earbuds, that are supremely comfortable.

The combination of oval ear tips and lightweight make the X6i one of the most comfortable in-ear headphones that I have ever worn, especially for some extended periods. So, for an intercontinental flight you can have these in your ears and will never feel fatigued by them.
To ensure the headphones fit comfortably and well-sealed, the Klipsch includes five sets of the ear tips for you to try by including a set of the double flange tips. It also has an included cable clip that you will need to fight the cable noise, I found while listening to music softly I could hear my breathing and heartbeat, but it is not an issue when listening the music at the normal volumes.
The attached remote control and mic work well for iPads and iPhones, but not well for the Android devices. The controls can be used to play/pause, change volume, activate Siri on the iPhone and skip tracks but with a triple-click the Android users won’t be able to skip back to the previous track and that is a minor annoyance.
On the other hand, the sound quality by using the mic is good, with family and friends telling me that I was clear and loud without having to hold the mic close to my mouth.
PERFORMANCE:
The Klipsch Reference X6i work for all genres of music and are beautifully balanced, from the classical to EDM. Its sparkling high and lush mids stand out to me the most and it makes listening to vocals a pleasure. The X6i has a wonderfully balanced, but it lacks the impact that the bass lovers will be looking for.

The sounds of music are effortless with X6i though, but it lacks the detail of more expensive headphones. While the most in-ear headphones suffer from the stuffy sound that is concentrated inside your head but the Klipsch X6i cast a wide sound that will let the listeners to hear exactly where each instrument is playing.
The Xi manages to sound good even with a single balanced armature driver in each earpiece. While most of the companies rely on cramming in two or more of these drivers in the each earbud to get rich and balanced sound, so it is impressive that with a single driver Klipsch managed the same feat.
To keep out noise the X6i are extremely comfortable and they hold their seal very well. Commuters will be happy as they block out the most ambient noises without the need for the active noise cancellation and bulky battery pack that comes along with it.
FINAL VERDICT
The Klipsch Reference X6i are the wonderful sounding package. Their build, sound quality, comfort and the features make it great value for money too at around $179.
Competitors like Etymotic ER-4P offer a bit more resolution but they cost $120 more. Audiophiles on the budget should check out the Shure SE215 i.e. $99 and the bass lovers should look at Sennheiser Momentum In-Ears.
So if you are looking for a balanced sounding in-ear headphones for around $200, then the Klipsch Reference X6i will be the best and they are totally comfortable audiophile-level in-ear headphones for an affordable price.
