Coolpad Note 3 Plus Smartphone Review
Coolpad has now launched the third variant of the phone i.e. the Note 3 Plus. It retails at the price of Rs. 8,999 that was the original price of the Coolpad Note 3 befor the price cut. There are some minor changes and that set this phone apart from its predecessors.
LOOK and FEEL
There are two significant changes between the Coolpad Note 3 and the Note 3 Plus i.e. the latter weighs little bit more and it has a full-HD screen as compared to the 720/1280pixel resolution of former. The other difference is the Coolpad’s logo.
The price tag of Rs. 8,999 has an excellent looking smartphone and that has not made any effects on its aesthetic qualities. Thanks to its apparent edge-to-edge screen the front of the smartphone looks fantastic. The metallic strip along the front adds a bit of glamour and makes this a sharp looking smartphone.
Despite of the plastic build the new weight can be felt when holding the Coolpad Note 3 Plus. Its 5.5-inch screen put it in the phablet territory, but its extra weight now makes it feel one as well. If you want a big screen then this is not a bad thing because this will make a much better viewing experience, whether it is with videos, pictures or games. Lacking any sense of ‘POP’ colours seem a bit dull and muted. The power button is on the right and the volume rocker is on the left, micro-USB port is at the bottom and 3.5mm socket is at the top. The back has the camera, speaker, fingerprint sensor and flash.
SPECIFICATIONS and SOFTWARE
SPECIFICATIONS and SOFTWARE
The similarities between the Note 3 and Note 3 Plus is continue here, with newer device that is featuring the exact same specifications list like its predecessor. The MediaTek MT6753 SoC does not appear on a lot in the smartphones these days, with the manufacturers that are opting for the newer and more cable options from both the Qualcomm and MediaTek.
Like before there is generous RAM of 3GB and internal storage of 16GB, along with the dual-SIM connectivity and separate microSD slot that supports cards up to 64GB. The 4G connectivity on both the TDD –band 40 and FDD-band 3 is supported on both the SIM slots. All these specifications are pretty great for Rs. 8,999 smartphone.
With CoolUI 6.0 on the top the Coolpad Note 3 plus runs on Android 5.1. The system are poorly worded and the icons are arranged in a disorderly fashion and the whole interface seems a little bit cartoony to us. It is a predictably single-layered, but yes you can activate the traditional mode that switches the interface to a dual-layered set up with the dedicated app drawer.
The lack of polish is continuing even in the notifications shade and settings app. You will also get Xploree keyboard.
CAMERA
Like its predecessor the Coolpad Note 3 Plus has exactly the same set of the camera and the camera performance is pretty much identical. The primary camera of 13-megapixel has a variable focus and with single-tone LED flash, while the 5-megapixel front camera is at the fixed focus point.
Colours of photos are vibrant as camera takes photos in well-lit conditions.
PERFORMANCE
Performance on the Coolpad Note 3 Plus is comfortable although it is running the aging MediaTek MT6753 SoC, so thanks to the 3GB of RAM. Moving about the interface is comfortable and most games and apps load up quickly enough. Heavy activity and gaming does cause the phone to heat up a bit.
VERDICT
The Coolpad Note 3 Plus is just the upgraded version of the Note 3 and it does not bring anything new to the table. But Coolpad Note 3 Plus with a good set of features for the price is a decent phone. It has an acceptably decent camera, fairly quick and accurate fingerprint sensor and good screen.
GOOD
- Good screen
- Value for money
- Decent fingerprint sensor
BAD
- Slightly dull camera performance
- Poorly designed software
