Coolpad Max Review in First Impression: The new Coolpad Max is a significant launch by company and it is priced at Rs. 24,999. Let’s take a look in detail:

LOOK and FEEL:
With gold lettering the Coolpad Max arrives in a fairly elaborate black box. You will get a flat USB cable, a clear plastic case, a SIM eject pin, a Quick Charge-compatible charger, a wired headset and an adhesive screen protector.

The device itself like a mashup of the recent designs from HTC and Apple. The front face of the smartphone is covered in the Gorilla Glass 4, that has beveled edges. Every time the phone moves even slightly the edges catch the light that can become a little distracting and the glass is pretty reflective. The sensor window and the earpiece grille front camera are above the screen. On the right you will find SIM/microSD and power button. The 3.5mm audio socket is on the top, the volume buttons are on the left and the Micro-USB port is on the bottom that is flanked by the two grilles.
The rear of the phone is matte metal that feels quite nice. With a shiny ring around it there is a recessed round fingerprint sensor above the sticker. Though the edges could have been rounded more smoothly but the grip is pretty good. The phone is a bit heavy at 170g. So, overall the Coolpad Max is definitely a premium looking phone but at this price point it is not necessarily the most attractive.

The Coolpad Max is also known as Coolpad A8 and it is available with the different hardware configurations in the different parts of world. In India only its warm gold colour has been launched

– Internal storage space of 64GB
– There is 5.5-inch 1080/1920-pixel screen
– On the back there is a 13-megapixel camera with the phase detection autofocus and two-tone flash
– Also a 5-megapixel camera in front
– The battery has capacity of 2800mAh and it is non-removable
– LTE will be supported on both the SIMs in India on bands 3 and 40.
– There is Bluetooth 4.0, USB OTG, Wi-Fi ac, A-GPS.
– The microSD support tops out only 64GB
PERFORMANCE
– For most of the part the Coolpad Max is pretty snappy, but it does tend to get little bit warm when it is used for long time.
– Everything on the smartphone runs smoothly but this phone becomes a bit uncomfortable to hold while playing the games.
– The screen is bright and sharp with colours that are not too muted or too punchy. Movies and games look great, except for unavoidable reflections at edges of the screen. For casual use, the speaker is loud enough.
The fingerprint reader is very quick but it is not always accurate and it is seemed to work on the second try. Switching between the spaces took 10 seconds and the company licensed the feature to Coolpad says that it has minimal impact on the performance and it is extremely low on the overheads.
The camera is also good and the images coming out are clean and free of compression artefacts and noise. Even in the shaded areas the fine textures were reproduced well. The smartphone did well in the low light. Blurring was a lot severe here but the photos were still very usable. Videos came out were sharp and quite smooth at 1080p, though just a little dull.
In our video loop test the battery was lasted for 8 hours and 41 minutes.
VERDICT
So if you are looking for an everyday workhorse then this smartphone is seriously overpriced and it also heats up a lot, otherwise the Max is a interesting smartphone.

- Generous amounts of RAM and storage
- Metal body with the Gorilla Glass 4
BAD:
- Clunky custom software
- Slightly weak processor
- Gets quite warm with use
- Over priced
