Among those waiting for updates are Samsung Galaxy devices. While the Galaxy S7 and and S7 Edge came pre-installed with Marshmallow, previous versions have had to wait.
Here’s what we know about the Galaxy devices and their marshmallow updates:
  • Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 are the latest to get Android 6.0.
  • Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus in Korea are getting Android 6.0.1. Other countries around the world have also been receiving the update, including India, United Kingdom, Philippines, Nigeria and Germany.
  • Galaxy S6 and s6 Edge users in North America subscribed to Sprint have received a Marshmallow 6.0.1 update; S6 Edge Plus users have also been given the update. Rivals Verizon and T-Mobile have also rolled out updates for their customers. AT&T is also set to get an update.
  • Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Marshmallow updates have rolled out in Canada for Telus and Bell users. Canadian carriers such as VideoTron and Eastlink are also reported to roll out updates for Galaxy S6 Edge Marshmallow 6.0.1.
  • Vodafone users in Australia are getting a Marshmallow update for Galaxy S6 Edge Plus while Telstra is rolling out the update for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Optus looks to be deploying the update to Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
Expected to get updates
Samsung Galaxy tablets are expected to get the update soon. How soon is the question that remains to be answered as Google is set to announce new changes to Android in their upcoming conference. That said, the Galaxy Tab S2, Galaxy Tab S and Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 are all expected to get the Marshmallow update.
In the process of getting an update
As mentioned earlier, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge as well as Galaxy S6 Edge Plus users have received the Android 6.0 or 6.0.1 update for their phones. Reports are indicating that Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 devices will also be updated to the latest version.
If you’ve noticed, devices such as the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 3 aren’t listed as potential candidates for an upgrade. The most likely case is they aren’t getting Marshmallow because they are rather old models. In short, this leaves users wanting what Android 6.0 has to offer to update their phones.
