So, There are 2 methods to upgrade your current Micromax Android device to Lollipop. 1) Via FOTA (Firmware over the air) upgrade or 2) Installing a Custom ROM that is made for Your device.
Let’s explain 1st method first! Many people are basic users so I will explain this method in detail.
Method 1: Via FOTA (Firmware over-the-air) Upgrade
Step 1. Connect your Micromax android device to SIM data connection or WiFi.
Step 2. You can check update from Settings >> About phone >> system update.
Step 3. If any update is available for your device then it will appear. (See the image below for more detail). If you don’t have any update available for Your Micromax Android device, then you can go for method 2.

Step 4. Click on “OK” then Update will be downloaded.
Step 5: After download is completed, click “Update Now” to install an update. The phone will reboot. (See the image below) NOTE: For installation battery needs to be above 40%

After phone reboots, it gives notification “Update successfully”. FOTA upgrade process is completed. Recommendations: Reboot your phone again after installation is complete.

Method 2: Via Installing Custom ROM
Be aware, Installing Custom ROM may damage your device & Only you will be responsible for that. There are many Custom ROM are in a market like CyanogenMod, OmniROM, Blisspop etc…
First, You need to check if any Lollipop-based Custom ROM is available for your device.
If any Custom ROM is available for your Micromax Android Device. then You should backup your all data that is saved on your phone.
To Install, any Custom ROM your device needs to be rooted first, Rooting your phone will void your device warranty. You can root your android device using a PC software, there are many Windows based tools available to root ur device. Maybe you will need to unlock your phone’s bootloader first. You also can install a Custom Android Recovery like CWM or TWRP. After rooting and/or installing Custom Recovery follow next steps.
Download a Custom ROM for your device. Also, download GApps for your device/Custom ROM. Put them all into your device’s SD Card/Internal Memory.
Boot into your recovery, Backup all the data, and then click on “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe Dalvik cache”. You may also need to wipe /system with /data and /cache.
Now, Click on “install zip” and “choose zip” locate Custom ROM of your device and then install it. After you finish the installation you may also need to install GApps (Google Apps). After you finish the process. Wipe /cache & /Dalvik. If you can’t find the option then click on “wipe cache partition” and “wipe Dalvik cache”.
Then reboot your device. the device may take a long time to boot the first time When device boots up enjoy your device running Android Lollipop!
NOTE: We do not encourage anyone to root their device, Rooting phone may damage your device and Rooting will also void your warranty. In case, if Something goes wrong then, only & only you will be responsible for that. You must backup your all data and also take a backup of your whole device before installing any Custom ROM. Best luck!
