According to a VentureBeat report, Google is working on a new Periscope-like live-streaming app called YouTube Connect. It will be made available for Android as well as iOS.
The YouTube Connect will do pretty much the same as Periscope or Facebook Live, adds the report. Users will have to log into the app using their YouTube account details and can instantly start streaming. One will also find features such as tagging, chat and news feed, states the report, citing people related to the matter.
Video can be viewed within the app as well on the respective YouTube channel, says the report. The broadcasts will be saved on the app and can be viewed later too. However, there is no word on whether Google plans to integrate social networks for sharing with others.
This move isn’t surprising as Google doesn’t want to be late to the live-streaming party that already includes Meerkat, Periscope and Facebook Live.
“A livestreaming app makes sense when you’re thinking about future directions for YouTube, a platform that houses the world’s collection of user-generated videos. Giving content creators the ability to interact with their fans in real-time while on the red carpet, at a major event, or whatever they’re doing is important,” points out VentureBeat.
However, Google has been tight lipped about such a new app coming soon, and told TheVerge that they wouldn’t want to comment on speculation and rumours.
