NEW DELHI: Ever since the launch of Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL smartphones, critics from around the globe have been placing the duo as one of the best devices for photography. Some have even pitched it better than Apple’s flagship iPhone X. Consumer Reports, a popular ratings website, thinks otherwise.
The website has revealed the 10 best camera smartphones and surprisingly, Google Pixel 2 or the Pixel 2 XL is nowhere seen in the list. The list includes nothing more than two brands – Apple and Samsung. Here’s how it looks like:

-Apple iPhone 8
-Apple iPhone 8 Plus
-Samsung Galaxy S8+
-Apple iPhone 7
-Apple iPhone 6s Plus
-Samsung Galaxy S8
-Samsung Galaxy Note8
-Apple iPhone 7 Plus
-Samsung Galaxy S8 Active
The report rightfully mentions that smartphones merely having more number of pixels are not always the best photography devices. The image quality, video quality and everything else matter the most. Same is said for those handsets having dual rear cameras.
While one cannot argue on what process Consumer Report has to rate smartphones for their cameras, it is drastically different from the list given by DxO Mark, a popular camera rating website. According to the website, Google Pixel 2 leads the race followed by iPhone X. Here’s DxO Mark’s list.

What’s interesting is that the Pixel 2 is the only smartphone featuring a single rear camera in the top 5 list while rest of them have dual rear cameras. Other single lens camera smartphones in the list are the iPhone 8, Google Pixel and HTC U11.
Now that we have new smartphones entering the market such as the Samsung Galaxy S9, Sony Xperia XZ2, Asus Zenfone 5 and more, the lists may see some change in the coming weeks or months.
