Samsung stopped the Android Oreo 8.0 update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones
NEW DELHI: Recently, it was reported that the Samsung stopped Android Oreo update for its flagship smartphones Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in some regions, including India. However, the company did not disclose the reason behind it.

A report by SamMobile revealed that the company pulled back all the firmware files for both the handsets from its servers and is working on new firmware files. Now, the company released an official statement revealing the reason behind the sudden suspension of the Android Oreo update.

The company said, “Following a limited number of cases where Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices have rebooted unexpectedly with the Android 8.0 Oreo, we have temporarily stopped the rollout of the update. We are investigating the issue internally to ensure that the impact to the affected devices is minimized and the rollout of the update can resume as quickly as possible.”

The company also added that in case a user has downloaded the update and has not installed it yet, then the downloaded files will be deleted from the device.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphone in April last year. Both the device came with Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box and sports a bezel-less Infinity Edge display.

The company is now gearing up for the launch of its next generation flagship smartphones. Samsung has sent out media invites for the launch of Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ at MWC 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.

The invites and teasers shared by the company highlight that both the smartphones will offer improved camera capabilities. Along with this, the company will also be introducing 3D emoji feature with both the devices.

The smartphones are expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and run Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box.
