First Android Oreo (Go Edition)

MWC 2018: First Android Oreo (Go Edition), new Android One smartphone launch confirmed
NEW DELHI: MWC 2018 is starting begins just a couple of days from now and we are expecting some of the smartphone industry's biggest brands like Samsung, Sony, Asus, LG and HMD to launch their flagship smartphones for the year. However, we may also see some budget Android One smartphones along with the first-ever Android Oreo (Go Edition) handset as well at the event.

Google’s senior vice president of platforms and ecosystem, Hiroshi Lockheimer has confirmed the launch of these new smartphones at MWC 2018. “Starting next week, you’ll see the first set of Android Oreo (Go edition) phones, and soon after they’ll be available for you to purchase,” he said in a blog post.

He added that, “We’re excited about the progress we’ve made with Android One in recent months, and at MWC you’ll see news from our partners about some great new Android One devices.”

Although everything is under wraps for now, in case of Android One (Go Edition) we may probably see the Micromax Bharat Go, the Indian handset maker’s first ever smartphone running Android One (Go Edition). The company last month confirmed it would launch the smartphone before February but that did not happen.

Although details are scarce at the moment, we can be at least sure of what’s coming as part of the OS version as Google already detailed them last year.

One of the key apps in the OS version that will come pre-installed will be Files Go. The app has three basic functions including freeing up space by deleting unwanted messages and more, finding files, photos and other content faster and sharing files without going online with people nearby.

Other expected apps include the 'Go' versions of Google Search, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Gmail and more. The existing app, YouTube Go will also be coming as a part of the OS with some new features.
