Apple is reportedly changing its software strategy

Latest Govt. Jobs 23:15:00 News Edit
Apple is reportedly changing its software strategy, and here's why it may be good news for users
Apple is reportedly overhauling its software and products strategy. And this may be good news for Apple users. As according to a report in Bloomberg, the company intends to change its product development strategy with renewed focus being on rooting out bugs from the software rather than just pushing new headline features in its iOS upgrades.

"The company is shaking up its development program to focus more on key features and push back others to the following year," says the report. This after the Cupertino giant reportedly concluded that it needs its own major upgrade in the way the company develops and introduces new products.

Quoting sources, the report claims that Apple software chief Craig Federighi last month laid out a new strategy for the company's army of engineers. "His team will have more time to work on new features and focus on under-the-hood refinements without being tied to a list of new features annually simply so the company can tout a massive year-over-year leap, people familiar with the situation say. The renewed focus on quality is designed to make sure the company can fulfill promises made each summer at the annual developers conference and that new features work reliably and as advertised," according to the report.

The report claims that the shift appears to be iPhone maker's acknowledgement of the fact that some Apple software being released are vulnerable to bugs and not as foolproof as the company's products were when it was a small team.

The Bloomberg report also sees the decision to give engineers more time and the discretion to "push back features that aren't as polished to the following year" a cultural shift in the company that is known for "quick turnarounds and flashy upgrades".

Apple launches an upgrade to its mobile operating system iOS at its annual developers event WWDC held in June every year. The company showcases the upcoming version of the OS that powers its iPhones and iPads. It talks about all the new features that the new OS update will bring to iPhones and iPads.

The OS update finally rolls out to its devices in September with the release of the company's new iPhones.

In June this year, Apple will showcase iOS 12. According to a recent report from Axios, Apple will be focusing on reliability and performance in iOS 12 rather than new features. "Apple has shaken up its iOS software plans for 2018, delaying some features to next year in an effort to put more focus on addressing performance and quality issues," says the Axios report quoting sources.

As per the report, the features that have been pushed to 2019 include a redesigned home screen, updates apps like Mail, and some reported tweaks in the Photos app. The company will, however, introduce some new Augmented Reality (AR) and health-related features in iOS 12.
