Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro Review

Latest Govt. Jobs 11:28:00 Reviews Edit

Micromax was one of the first phonemakers to offer a thin-bezel smartphone, called Canvas Infinity, priced under Rs10,000. Continuing in the same vein, the company has released a slightly superior variant of the same phone but with better build, design and specifications. It is called the Canvas Infinity Pro and is available at Rs13,999 on Flipkart.com. If you are planning on buying a new affordable Android smartphone, this could be an option.
■The Infinity Pro is a good looking smartphone with a full-metal exterior, discreet plastic antenna bands and metal keys. It also feels handy and easily manageable due to the narrow form factor (72.8mm) and slightly flat side panel.

The Infinity Pro is a good looking smartphone with a full-metal exterior, discreet plastic antenna bands and metal keys.
■With hardly any room on the front bezels, elements such as fingerprint sensor have been placed at the back. It is accurate but feels a little sluggish at times.
■ The SIM tray is placed on the side panel and includes a dedicated slot for microSD cards. So one can use two SIM cards and take advantage of the expandable storage at the same time. This gives it an edge over budget smartphones such as new Honor 9 Lite, which clubs the microSD card slot with one of the SIM slots.
■The 5.7-inch screen offers a wide canvas for watching movies and gaming, but has a resolution of just 1,440x720p. This is a bit of a letdown for a big-screen phone and the video playback and gaming experience.
■Honor 9 Lite, which also offers a thin-bezel design, has a brighter and crisper looking 5.6-inch screen with a resolution of 2,160x1,080p.
■Micromax has gone with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor to power the Canvas Infinity Pro and has clubbed with 4GB RAM. It is a dependable processor but not as powerful as the Kirin 650 octa-core processor used in Honor 9 Lite and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor used in the Xiaomi Mi A1. The Infinity Pro didn’t feel nippy but won’t struggle with any of the day-to-day tasks either. For gaming, the Honor 9 Lite is a better bet.
■Its battery backup is average. The 3,000mAh battery barely lasted a whole day on single charge.
■With 64GB internal storage and the option to add up to 128GB more via microSD, it provides ample space for offline movies, songs and photos.
The Canvas Infinity Pro runs on a slightly older Android 7.1 with Micromax’s custom UI on top.

■The Canvas Infinity Pro runs on a slightly older Android 7.1 with Micromax’s custom UI on top. This is a well-designed interface with very few customisation options and features compared to Xiaomi’s MIUI or the Huawei’s Emotion UI. But it has some useful features such as the option to lock app icons, change the position of navigation keys and record calls. Honor 9 Lite runs Android 8.0 out of the box.
■The 16-megapixel primary camera is quite modest in terms of picture quality. Colours look washed out and darker areas look poorly lit. The front cameras can capture clear and crisp looking shots if the lighting is good. The front panel includes a 20-megapixel camera for regular selfies and an 8-megapixel camera for portrait mode and wide-angle group shots.
■The Canvas Infinity Pro looks refined, offers good quality front cameras and offers a big screen. However, for that price, one can get much better smartphones such as the Honor 9 Lite (Rs10,999 onwards) and the Xiaomi Mi A1 (Rs13,999). The former offers better rear cameras, runs latest Android, offers superior performance and a sharper display. The Xiaomi smartphone runs Android 8.0 with stock UI, offers superior hardware, has a sharper display and a better back camera.
