Harman Kardon, a Samsung company, is known for its audio products. The company is often appreciated for its range of headphones and speakers. The company recently unveiled its latest line-up of audio products in India and we got a chance to try one of them. We used the JBL E35 over-the-ear wired headphones. Priced at Rs 3,560, the device claims to offer "best of both sound and comfort". After using the device for some time, here's what we think of it.
Design
The JBL E35 comes with a really impressive design. Available in various colour options, the headphones comes with a sturdy design. The headphones are made of plastic and textured fabric. The JBL E35 comes with foldable and 90- degree rotatable earcups. The earcups come with cushioned padding for comfortable fit. The outer part of the earcups also has a circular textured design with the JBL branding placed in the centre. The headband is covered with a textured fabric which helps on keeping the device steady when in use. The headphones come with a detachable cable design. This means that whenever a user wants to use the device then they will have to plug in the cable from both the ends.
The right earcup has a 2.5mm audio jack, so users have to insert the 2.5mm driver in the headphones and 3.5mm driver in the smartphone, laptop or tablet. We were quite impressed with the quality of the cable as well. The cable is quite strong and is also covered with a braided fabric. The 3.5mm driver is slightly bent instead of the regular straight or L shaped design. The cable also consists of one button universal remote with a built-in microphone. In a nutshell, the JBL E35 is a good looking pair of headphones with a sturdy build quality.
Performance
Using the JBL E35 was a simple task, you just have to plug it and you're set. The headphones come with a 40mm driver and a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz. The sound quality was pretty fine. The device offers decent bass and good levels of mids and highs. The noise cancellation was also satisfactory but nothing that great. When using it outdoors you will be able to hear the environmental noise and this can hamper your music listening or movie watching experience. The headphones come with cushioned earcups but they are not that comfortable. The size of the earcups is a bit small and they will not cover your ears completely. This means that the earcups will press against your ears and will start hurting after sometime. The headband although adjustable is a bit tight and using the headphones for a longer period can turn out to be painful. We have no complaints with the music quality but the headphones are not that comfortable. There is minimal audio leakage from the headphones so you will also not disturb your neighbours. The mic performed well and we did not face any issue in answering calls. Whether indoor or outdoor, the headphones were a pretty decent in terms of music experience and answering calls.
Verdict
Priced at Rs 3,650, the JBL E35 are a decent pair of headphones. They come with a foldable design and offer pretty good sound quality. However, there were some issues with the comfort factor. The small earcups and tight headband are a problem. Other than that the headphones are good buy for those looking for headphones in this price segment.
